Air purifiers are the big trend for 2020, but are they worth it?

With air pollution worsening around the world, and estimates that air pollution can be up to five times higher indoors, air purifiers are emerging as a big wellness trend for 2020. According to MarketWatch, global demand for the products is growing at a rate of nearly 10 per cent a year with the global market expected to reach $33 billion by 2023. Air purifiers manage the problem, but don’t treat it and they cannot remove all pollutants.Credit:Getty As distinct from air conditioners, which regulate the air temperature but do not necessarily filter the air, purifiers are designed to capture pollutants and particles while pushing clean, filtered air back out into single rooms. Priced between roughly $100 and $2000 – with some even pitching themselves as the best for bushfire smoke – the question is: are air purifiers worth it? Adele Taylor, manager of the Sensitive Choice product assessment program at the National Asthma Council Australia, said there was “debate around the effectiveness of air purifiers”. Sensitive Choice has reviewed a “large number” of air purifiers and Ms Taylor says certain features may be better equipped to help those with asthm...

Incorporating Machine Learning into Clinical Episode Grouping

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Dec. 19, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — As healthcare organizations increasingly incorporate predictive analytics into their operational workflows, it is becoming more important for clinical episode groupers to be designed with machine learning in mind. But many existing commercial episode groupers continue to leverage decades-old technology with basic logic assumptions unchanged—making their output ill-suited for sophisticated predictive analytics. That’s why Certilytics built CORE Pathways, which optimizes data for machine learning and deep learning, empowering our customers to: Unlike many legacy clinical episode groupers, CORE (which stands for Collection of Related Events) is ideal for machine learning because of the way easy-to-understand features are strategically engineered through a complex series of clinically based algorithms. For example, CORE Pathways prepares analytic features such as a patient’s history of emergency room visits, inpatient admissions, unsupervised Rx refills, chronic conditions, condition severity, and many others. All of this information can be incorporated into predictive models designed to identify at-risk patients before...

iPhones and iPads finally group notifications thanks to iOS 12. Multiple notifications from the same app

iPhones and iPads finally group notifications thanks to iOS 12. Multiple notifications from the same app are bundled together, making the notification center less messy and overwhelming. But Apple still lets you “unbundle” notifications for individual apps. For example, you might want to see individual notifications from your favorite chat app in the notification center, making it easier to skim through all your new messages without the additional tap. Tap “Notification Grouping” under Options at the bottom of the app’s notification settings screen. Tap the “Off” option here to disable notification grouping for the app. You’ll see each of the app’s notifications appear alone in the notification center. Repeat this process for every individual app for which you want to disable notification grouping. There’s no way to disable notification grouping for all apps on your system at once—you have disable it for each app separately. Auto Transmission Overhaul Kit The default setting for each app on your system is “Automatic.” This always groups notifications by app, but your iPhone or iPad may sometimes create separate bundles for other reasons. For example, if you have a bunch of new e...
