You might be using private browsing or have notifications blocked. Please enable notifications or using normal browsing mode. Xtreme Brands, which was sued by clients who said they were not given refunds, has filed a $41 million defamation lawsuit. A Long Island travel agency sued by clients who said they were not given refunds when their spring break trips “were abruptly cancelled” has moved for that case to be dismissed and filed a $41 million defamation lawsuit against two former clients and two of their parents. The defamation lawsuit alleges that Zachary Snitofsky, a former client and a plaintiff in the earlier lawsuit, and his father, Eric Snitofsky, both of Kings Park, ”embarked on a campaign to personally and professionally ruin” the company, Xtreme Brands LLC, and its principals “by writing defamatory statements” on Facebook and making “false statements” to the media. Stories from the web sites of Newsday and News12 published in April about the lawsuit against Xtreme Brands are cited as exhibits in the defamation lawsuit. The defamation suit, filed in state Supreme Court in Mineola, also names Olivia Venezio of Dix Hills, ...

WASHINGTON, June 27, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — The construction sector continues consuming globally around one third of the planet’s already limited resources1. Building with wood products like Kerto® LVL (laminated veneer lumber) enables the vitally important change towards sustainable building. “Our planet cannot keep up with our consumption. We use materials faster than the Earth can produce new ones. We generate more waste than the Earth is able to absorb”, Matti Kuittinen, architect and researcher from Aalto University, points out. Within the building materials sector, the production of steel and aluminum alone require around 51% and concrete production 17% of the energy for producing all building materials globally2. “We need a shift from unsustainable consumption patterns without delay. Increasing the use of sustainably sourced wood in construction is a much-needed step in the right direction. As a co-benefit, non-renewable raw materials such as steel and cement, can be saved or used for more value-added purposes”, says architect Kristoffer Tejlgaard from Atelier Kristoffer Tejlgaard. With the highest strength, wood is so light that buildings...

On World Environment Day 2019, Pledge to Reduce Your Plastic Footprint

New Delhi, Jun 5: Since 1950, humans have created 8.3 billion metric tons of plastics and most of that synthetic material still exists on our planet. The above finding from the journal Science Advances is enough to show the battle our planet is fighting. To remedy the situation, the government and a few companies have modelled plans to decrease single-use plastic, and promote recycling of the material. While some companies have shifted to biodegradable materials, others have refill schemes or packaging-less products on offer. World Environment Day 2019: ‘Planet Nahi Toh Future Nahi’, Children Raise Awareness About Climate Change. However, the general message remains – boycott plastic. Many companies are opting for PET plastic- a relatively safer form of the material – for their packaging. Another environmental friendly initiative is post-consumer resin (PCR) created by product that completes its cycle as a consumer item. “The Body Shop is currently undergoing a comprehensive review of sustainable packaging in a socially and environmentally viable way. We are incorporating 100% PCR material into some of 60ml, 250ml and 750ml bottles by the end of 201...

If you grow up around a small engineering business you are likely to gain something of

If you grow up around a small engineering business you are likely to gain something of an appreciation for power tools. You’ll see them of all ages, sizes, manufacturers, and technologies. When thinking of the power tools constantly on hand in the workshop of a blacksmith like my dad for instance, I’m instantly seeing a drill and an angle grinder. The drill that most comes to mind is a Makita mains powered hand drill, and given that I remember the day he bought it to replace his clapped-out Wolf in 1976, it has given phenomenal service over four decades and continues to do so. Of course, the Makita isn’t the only drill in his possession. A variety of others of different sizes and speeds have come and gone over the years, and there is always one at hand for any given task. The other one I’d like to single out is I think the most recent acquisition, a Bosch cordless model he bought several years ago. It’s similar in size and capabilities to the Makita save for its bulky battery pack, and it is a comparably decent quality tool. So, we have two drills, both of similar size, and both of decent quality. One is from the mid 1970s, the other from the end of the last decade. One is a ver...

Finding focus in high-power industrial laser processes

In today’s economic climate, those working with industrial high-power lasers should be doing everything they can to maintain one of their most valuable tools at its peak performance and optimize the processes for which they are used. In today’s economic climate, those working with industrial high-power lasers should be doing everything they can to maintain one of their most valuable tools at its peak performance and optimize the processes for which they are used. As technology progresses, more techniques are available to laser users to optimize the application of their lasers, with the goal of maximizing throughput and minimizing downtime. Laser output power, along with focused spot size and its temporal location, are crucial to optimizing the laser process. Material processing is an idea as old as time itself; however, using a laser for joining, cutting, ablating, etc. is something that is relatively new to mankind. Several different lasing techniques have served well over the past few decades, but it is no secret that the fiber laser, with its high wall-plug efficiency and high beam quality, has changed the way we produce parts with a laser. But two things have not...

Division Zero X40 Pro Gaming Mechanical Keyboard and M50 Pro Gaming Mouse Review

The past 18 months have been unprecedented for eSports and gaming in general. In that short amount of time, we’ve seen Amazon and Google get involved in live game streaming and publishers like Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts create competitive gaming divisions. Even ESPN launched a dedicated eSports vertical a little over a year after its president, John Skipper, said competitive gaming was like chess and checkers — a competition, not a real sport. Now that we’re on the brink of a virtual reality revolution, the future of gaming has never looked brighter. The meteoric rise of eSports, and the fact that high-end gaming desktops and laptops represent the fastest-growing PC segment in an otherwise stagnant market, has spawned a surge in gaming peripherals from both established players and newcomers. One of the more well-known companies now catering to gamers is Metadot Corporation, makers of the Das Keyboard. Metadot today is launching Division Zero, a new brand and product line developed specifically for the pro gaming and eSports community. Its debut offerings include the X40 Pro Gaming Mechanical Keyboard and the M50 Pro Gaming Mouse, both of which we&#...

Lake Eyre comes to life as the water floods into the desert

The scorched, red earth around William Creek bears the scars of drought. The wind has eroded the soil. The stations have cut their herd numbers. The rain that devastated regions up north earlier in the year is bringing life to Australia’s biggest lake. Lake Eyre, in the South Australian outback, fills only three or four times a century. Picture: Doug Dingwall Most of the time, Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre is a glistening salt pan in the South Australian outback. An expanse of white as far as the eye can see. But when enough water flows through the web of rivers that feed it, the lake starts to fill. Almost two years ago I flew over Lake Eyre from Coober Pedy. It was dry then, but the sparkling surface and milky swirls where the salt wove into the land were an extraordinary sight. But Lake Eyre in flood is a phenomenon, and it’s a dream that’s brought me back to William Creek, a tiny town along the Oodnadatta Track. The flies don’t wait for the sun as pilot Trevor Wright, owner of Wrights Air (and the rest of the town), prepares our plane on the tarmac while the sunrise changes from purple to red. There’s clouds in the sky and word of storms in the west. B...

The time management flip comes in the instant at which your greatest leverage switches from making

The time management flip comes in the instant at which your greatest leverage switches from making the best use of your own time to helping your team members make the best use of their time. As a senior leader, leverage comes from your team. Success is no longer based on what you do yourself, but, rather, on what you inspire, enable, and empower in others. This is why individual contributors, managers, and leaders must think about time management differently, with I started my career as a sales representative. I became adept at time management, sorting my call plans to maximize calls with my most productive customers, mapping out my days to minimize my travel time, mapping out my time in store to make my limited time with buyers as productive as possible. Then I took over a sales unit. In an instant my greatest leverage switched from managing my own time to helping the people that worked for me manage their time. After that flip I spent my time helping them make tactical adjustments to sort their call plans, and map out their days and store visits. There’s a second flip between manager and leader. That flip is the difference between Strategos and Taktikos. Strategos is the art ...
